Diplodocus :: Design Store - PTV #24

Everyone has to start somewhere and for the Young Kiwis studying a Diploma in Art at the Windermere Campus in Tauranga, they have the perfect place to do just that.

The Diplodocus Design Store is a creative project developed and managed by the the students attending the course.  Here they are able to show off their paintings, jewllery and ceramic designs whilst learning.

What I love most, apart from helping out the students by buying their art, is the fact that whatever you buy will probably be a one and only original.  Their art can be anywhere from playful to elegant and consists of art not only painted on canvas, but other materials as well - some extreme creativity going on here!

If you are out and about that way, or even driving through, do go in and check them out.  A great little store and another example of Kiwi Creativity - Choice!

Cloud Nine Creative - Rangiora

It's sometimes hard to share things you absolutely love ... but I'm not very good at keeping secrets ... and Cloud Nine Creative is definitely Choice!

Lee Sinclair, director and designer of Cloud Nine Creative, grew up making the odd thing for family and friends, and after her overseas travel, decided to spread her love of design and craft to the rest of the World by creating her own label.

Although a bold decision, it was a fantastic one. From Kiwi themes to delicate floral designs, Lee has a great range of necklaces, earrings, rings, prints and even gift cards.

I have no doubt you will fall in love with something of hers, and as much as I would love to show everything off, I can only show you some of my favs ... enjoy!

Vintage Love - Pukekohe

If you are anything like myself, you probably like to find jewellery that is unique and eye capturing in a way that will prompt People to ask ''Where did you get that?".

To me it is always fufilling to find jewellery that a majority of the People won't have and that doesn't blow my budget.  So, I would like to introduce you to ... Vintage Love.

Vintage Love has original, non massed produced jewellery that is clever, creative and totally affordable.  There is going to be more than one piece that will appeal to you (I bought three on my first visit), and if you are into Britain and Rule Britannia, she has a Rule Britannia collection too!

From your old romantic patterns to the cameos, fabric and textiles with some other great little ranges, there is quite a broad selection that may suit your own tastes.

Definitely worth checking out at either the website or their Facebook page.

Earth Gems - My Little Secret

There are some favourite places that you probably think twice about mentioning to People, and for me, this is one of them.

We visit Nelson a couple of times a year to visit Family, and every time I go down I book myself two hours of time with my friend Judith (but ends up being four hours!).

Judith runs a bead shop out of her own home, selling everything from the basic necessities to beautiful beads, to beading lessons on necklaces, earrings, bracelets and the likes.  I had never even touched a bead prior to meeting Judith, but from my first visit it has become a welcomed hobby.

The difference between Judith's place and those others I have been to since, is that Judith makes you feel welcome and relaxed.  With a fresh cuppa coffee or tea, you can sit down without any pressure, take up space on one of the tables, and slowly peruse your way through all the beads and come up with your own design.

With Judith's help and understanding of what you may be thinking, you're pretty much guaranteed to make something you are bound to wear.  She is not expensive and has many interesting beads that she herself uses to make necklaces for sale.  On top of all this, she has a darling personality that you just can't help but love!

If you would like to try beading or if you would like to check her out and spend some hours relaxing and creating, then check out her website or get in contact with her.  Whether you already live in Nelson, or you are just passing through, it is definitely worth a look.

SeventySix Design

Jewellers with a difference .....

Sean, Angela and Tania are not your stereotypical Jewellers for sure, but they understand the need to have something beautiful and unique without the requirement of you emptying out your pockets.  Whilst focusing on their own modern contemporary designs, they are specialists in creating jewellery from your own imagination.

Many Jewellers are very similar in work and don't seem to want to go off on too many tangents, but these guys welcome the opportunity to do so.  They understand what simple is and what detail can do.  Their focus of bringing your idea to life is top priority.

It doesn't matter what the occasion is, you must go in and visit them before making a decision anywhere else.  Check out their own designs or talk to them about designing your own.

Have fun!

Lisa Hoskins

Some of you may have already seen her range in places like Askew or Flying Saucers, but for those who haven't, you have to check this out.  For the Men, next time you want to spend that little bit more for something different and elegant, find out where her stockists are.  Lisa's jewellery is simple, sharp and stunning.  I have a number of her pieces now and I still can't get enough!

What I love most about her designs is the way that she has made the jewellery with subtle pictures which look like snippets of either music, old maps, or prints. Each year there is a story and each piece, although looks similar to another, on detail is very unique.  So you may be one of very few with that exact necklace or earrings!
